Truly Words to Live By

I just listened to the commencement speech that Steve Jobs gave to the graduating class of Standford University, 2005.  I tried to post the video here, but it would not post, I presume because of copyright.  So go check it out on Youtube.  Choose the video that is 15 minutes.  You will be glad you did.
I wish I could have heard this when I was much younger, but then maybe I would not have gotten it.  Now I do, so now I am going to run with it.
As Steve Jobs is one of the most brilliant innovators of our time, (you know, Apple and Pixar) you can trust these words coming from him.  As a taste of the video, I will give you one of my favorite parts of his speech:

"Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life.  Don't be trapped by dogma, which is living with the results of other people's thinking.  Don't let the noise of other's opinions drown out your own inner voice.  And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.  They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary."

oh, carol, you're right! these words have so much to teach us whatever our age. i had a tough day at work today, faced with some moral dilemmas and the need to stand up for myself and what was right for my c-workers and my company. these words are very fitting way to end the day. thank you!!

I totally agree. Life is so short and we are given so many opportunities, but in my case I was too goofy to realize it until later. I agree with Julie about some tough days. I must have taken my energy for granted. I could move fast and get lots done. I have slowed down. I'm blessed to be able to keep going though.

~Life is to short~
~And~ you & I seem to be on the same path these days in a search on how not to waste any more time.~as i read threw your resent posts.~all you have been writing "rings true" in my ears.~
I will be 49 in sept.~
~& here I have found myself painting show after show.~finding myself a sought after scenic.~this is wonderful~ but~ my poor little 49 year old body does not think so.~scene painting is a very physical art.(climbing ladders, painting on a very large scale)
~And~ ever the "late bloomer"~ i didn't have my 1st. child till I was 28~&~ my last baby when i was 40~so, i have my 19,(going to college this july :))~a 16, a 14 & an 8 year old~all still needing me too~
balance is very hard for me~~~I love painting scenery~ but~ all i want to do is~my own art~& after a set is done~ I just collapse~
~So~ finally the point~is~ that~ very soon~ I need to find the courage to stop painting the sets & put all my energy into my own art~
~guess the problem w/ getting older is that ~knowledge & energy~ rarely go hand & hand~
~anyway~ you have me thinking~
;p
